NEXT NC Scholarship

TheNEXT NC Scholarship is a financial aid program that helps most North Carolinians from households making $80,000 or less pursue higher education by fully covering tuition and fees at any community college or more than half, if not all, of tuition and fees to attend any public university in the state.  

Students attending a community college will receive at least $3,000

Finish Line Grant

For students facing short-term financial hardships within the last 30-45 days impacting their ability to complete their program.

Eligibility:

Available for Curriculum and Continuing Education students.

Good academic standing required (minimum 2.0 GPA).

Cost of Attendance (COA) must not be exceeded (Curriculum students).

Maximum of $1,000 per student, per semester.

Examples of Qualifying Events:

Emergency housing/rent needs (current bills only).

Auto repairs due to accidents or unexpected issues.

Loss of books/supplies caused by natural disasters, fire, or theft.

Utility bills (water, gas, electric – current bills only)

Once your eligibility has been verified, you will receive an email with a link to complete the application.

TEACH Early Childhood Scholarship

Program of NC scholarship opportunity

The TEACH Early Childhood Scholarship Program of NC provides support to early childhood professionals to help cover approved educational costs. The program also awards incentives for successful coursework or credential completion.  TEACH can help support costs for students enrolled in:

An early childhood certificate, diploma or associate degree

An infant-toddler and preschool certificate

A few credit hours

JoCo Commissioners Promise

If you graduated in 2024 or 2025 from a Johnston County high school—or earned a homeschool or high school equivalency diploma—you may qualify for the JoCo Commissioners Promise Program. Graduates of Early College, Career & College Promise, and the Career and Technical Leadership Academy are also eligible. This last-dollar scholarship covers any tuition not already paid by Pell Grants, state aid, scholarships, or sponsorships.

Students are responsible for textbooks, lab kits, course-specific fees, and supplies. All eligibility must be met by the end of the first term of enrollment; there will be no late disbursement of funds. 

To be eligible, you must be a North Carolina resident who graduated from a Johnston County high school or earned an equivalent credential in 2024 or 2025. You must enroll in a curriculum program for at least six credit hours per semester within one year of graduation, complete the FAFSA (school code 009336), and meet JCC’s satisfactory academic progress requirements.

Funds for Continuing Education Courses

Continuing Education Courses are not eligible for financial aid. However, there are some funding sources available to help you reach your educational goals.

Back to Class

Back to Class funds are available for Continuing Education (CE) courses only. Not eligible: self-supporting classes, students who previously used BTC, or those seeking prerequisite exemptions.

Who can apply:

JCC graduates (CU degrees, diplomas, or Adult High School/GED)

CE certificate holders in programs like:

CNA 1/2, BioWork, EMS, Phlebotomy, Plumbing, Electrical, Fire, Wastewater, Gunsmithing, Culinary, Cosmetology, Manicurist, Massage, Income Maintenance, Teacher Assistant, and more

JCC employee alumni are also eligible

Important:

Must apply using the official BTC form before class starts

No refunds if you pay before applying

Funds are limited and available until used

SECU Bridge to Career Icon Image

SECU Bridge to Career

Students in Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) or Phlebotomy courses may qualify for a $500 reimbursement through the State Employees Credit Union (SECU).

To be eligible, you must:

Be a U.S. citizen, NC resident, and have a valid Social Security card and NC driver’s license.

Be enrolled in a short-term CE program leading to a recognized credential

Be in one of these groups:

Unemployed or underemployed adult

Unemployment insurance claimant

Military veteran

NC National Guard member

Required documents may include tax returns, pay stubs, DD214, or unemployment info. (Note: W-2s are not accepted.)

You cannot be an SECU employee or an immediate family member of one.
