Program Overview

Start your journey toward a rewarding career helping others feel better and live healthier. The Therapeutic Massage program at Johnston Community College teaches you how to promote wellness through the art and science of massage. You’ll gain hands-on experience in a supportive learning environment as you prepare to become a Licensed Massage and Bodywork Therapist (LMBT) in North Carolina.

What You’ll Learn

In this program, you’ll develop a strong foundation in health and wellness while mastering techniques that promote healing and relaxation. You’ll learn about:

Career Opportunities

After completing Massage I and Massage II, you’ll be eligible to take the Massage & Bodywork Licensure Exam (MBLEx) and apply for your North Carolina massage license. With your credentials, you can pursue a wide range of careers in wellness, healthcare, and fitness settings, such as:

  • Spas and wellness centers – offering relaxation and therapeutic services

  • Medical and clinical settings – integrating massage into patient care (e.g. rehab, pain clinics)

  • Chiropractic, physical therapy, or rehabilitation offices – collaborating with other practitioners

  • Mobile or in-home services – traveling to clients’ homes, offices, events

  • Fitness, athletic, or sports performance settings – working with athletes or gym clientele
