Johnston Community College (JCC) offers a comprehensive selection of Emergency & Life Support Training Courses, equipping healthcare professionals, first responders, and the public with essential skills to handle medical emergencies.
 JCC's Life Support Training and Specialized Certification programs are offered through the American Heart Association (AHA) and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT)

Basic & Advanced Life Support (AHA)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Learn how to perform CPR and other essential life-saving skills used by healthcare providers in emergency situations.
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS): Build your ability to assess and manage patients experiencing medical emergencies, from first response to advanced care.

Advanced Life Support (AHA)

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS): Learn to recognize and manage cardiac and respiratory emergencies using advanced life-saving techniques for healthcare professionals.
    • ACLS Initial Provider – Comprehensive course for first-time ACLS certification.
    • ACLS Recertification – Renewal course for experienced providers.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Experienced Provider (ACLS-EP): Enhance your advanced care skills to handle complex cardiovascular and critical emergencies with confidence and expertise.

Pediatric Emergency Care(AHA)

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Learn to assess, manage, and direct care during pediatric emergencies using advanced life-saving techniques for infants and children.
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): Build the skills to evaluate and stabilize critically ill infants and children, even if you rarely treat pediatric emergencies.
    • PALS Initial Provider – Full certification for new PALS providers.
    • PALS Recertification – Renewal course for experienced pediatric providers.
  • Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) – Gain specialized training in providing emergency medical care for children in prehospital and field settings.

Prehospital Emergency Care (NAEMT)

  • Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) - Learn advanced trauma care techniques, including patient assessment, airway management, and treatment of trauma injuries in prehospital settings.
  • Advanced Medical Life Support (AMLS) - Develop skills to assess and manage a wide range of medical emergencies, including respiratory, cardiac, and neurological conditions.
  • Geriatric Education for EMS (GEMS) - Understand how to assess and treat elderly patients while addressing age-related changes and providing compassionate care.
  • EMS Vehicle Operator Safety (EVOS) - Gain essential knowledge of safe driving practices, vehicle operation, and crash prevention for EMS professionals.
  • Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) - Train to provide life-saving care in tactical or high-threat situations, from active scenes to patient evacuation zones.

Instructor & Public Safety Courses

  • American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor Courses - Learn how to teach life-saving courses such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, and Heartsaver®. You’ll complete structured training to become a certified instructor ready to lead others in emergency care.

Heartsaver Courses (AHA)

  • Heartsaver® First Aid CPR AED - Learn basic first aid, CPR, and AED skills to respond to medical emergencies involving adults, children, and infants—ideal for teachers, coaches, childcare providers, and community members.
  • Heartsaver® Pediatric First Aid CPR AED - Gain the skills to handle medical and cardiac emergencies involving infants and children, designed for anyone who works or cares for young patients.
