The Health and Fitness Science program at Johnston Community College (JCC) prepares you for a career helping others improve their health and quality of life. Through a combination of science-based coursework and hands-on training, you’ll gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to work in fitness, wellness, and recreation settings.

Throughout the program, you’ll build a strong foundation in health and fitness concepts while developing job-ready skills, including:
Exercise Science – Learn how the body responds to physical activity, including muscular, cardiovascular, and metabolic systems.
Fitness Assessment – Develop skills to evaluate strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall fitness to create personalized exercise plans.
Instructional Techniques – Gain experience leading individual and group fitness activities using proper communication, motivation, and safety practices.
Equipment Proficiency – Learn to safely operate and maintain fitness equipment commonly used in gyms, wellness centers, and recreation facilities.
