Paying for Your Education

Placeholder Text

Don’t let the cost of college get in the way of your goals. We’re here to help you figure out how to make college more affordable. Our Financial Aid experts can help you find different ways to get money for school – some of which you don’t have to pay back! They’ll also help you apply for financial aid as you work toward your degree, diploma, or certificate.

Check Your Eligibility

To receive most types of Financial Aid, you must meet the following requirements:

Check Your Eligibility

  • Be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program of study
  • Meet one citizenship criteria
  • Have a valid Social Security number
  • Certify that you are not in default on a federal student loan and do not owe money on a federal student grant
  • Certify that you will use federal student aid only for educational purposes

Apply for Financial Aid

The first step in applying for financial aid at Johnston Community College (JCC) is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Federal and State Aid are available to eligible students.

There are three ways to complete your FAFSA:

Apply online to speed up processing and access important financial aid tools. Be sure to choose the FAFSA for the correct academic year.

To file online, both students and parents need an FSA ID to sign the application. Keep your FSA ID safe—you’ll need it for updates or future aid.

Need help? Visit the Student Success Center—no appointment needed. Allow at least 45 minutes to complete your FAFSA.

Apply by the priority deadline to avoid delays. If you apply late, you may need to pay up front or set up a payment plan in Self Service. If you're later awarded aid, you’ll be reimbursed during the semester. If not, you’re responsible for all charges.

Types of Federal Financial Aid

Federal Pell Grant

If you're an undergraduate student with financial need, you can apply for the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG). Your eligibility and the amount you receive are based on your Student Aid Index (SAI). The grant amount may also be adjusted depending on whether you’re enrolled full-time or part-time.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

You may be eligible for the FSEOG if your financial need goes beyond what other aid covers.

State Aid, Scholarships, and Grants

Federal Work-Study

If you have financial need, you may qualify for a part-time job through the Federal Work-Study Program. You can work up to 20 hours a week and get paid monthly. It’s a great way to earn money while gaining real-world experience—right on campus.
