Program Overview
Get the skills you need to work in today’s medical imaging environments. The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Program prepares you to operate advanced MRI equipment, provide safe patient care, and produce high-quality diagnostic images that support accurate medical decisions.
You will complete this program through a partnership between Edgecombe Community College and Johnston Community College. This collaboration combines strong academic instruction with specialized MRI training to prepare you for professional certification and career opportunities in hospitals, imaging centers, outpatient clinics, and other healthcare settings.

Throughout the program, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as an MRI technologist, including:

How to Operate MRI Machines -You will learn how to properly set up, operate, and adjust MRI equipment to capture clear and accurate images while following established imaging protocols.

Patient Care & Safety - You will develop skills to safely position patients, communicate procedures clearly, and monitor patient comfort while following MRI safety standards and infection control practices.

Medical Terminology & Anatomy - You will learn medical terms and human anatomy to understand physician orders, identify body structures, and support accurate imaging results.

Image Analysis & Interpretation - You will learn how to evaluate MRI images for quality, recognize common imaging issues, and ensure images meet diagnostic standards before submission.

This program is offered through a partnership between Edgecombe Community College and Johnston Community College. To begin the application process, you are required to apply through Edgecombe Community College.

Career Opportunities
Through hands-on training and expert instruction, you will build the technical and professional skills needed to succeed as an MRI technologist. Graduates of an accredited program may be eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (ARRT) national examination, with career opportunities available in:
- Hospitals - Work as part of a medical imaging team providing diagnostic scans for patients in inpatient and emergency care settings.
- Imaging Centers - Perform scheduled MRI scans in outpatient diagnostic imaging facilities.
- Outpatient Clinics - Support physicians by providing imaging services for ongoing patient care and treatment plans.
- Specialty Medical Offices - Assist specialists by producing detailed images focused on specific areas of the body.
