Johnston Community College officially celebrated the grand opening of its new Advanced Manufacturing Training Facility in Four Oaks on Friday, September 26, marking a major milestone for education, workforce development, and economic growth in the region.
The celebration included a VIP Reception and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The event drew community leaders, elected officials, industry partners, and local supporters, all gathered to recognize the facility’s role in shaping the future of Johnston County.

The program featured remarks from North Carolina House Representatives Howard Penny, Jr., Donna White, and Larry Strickland; Mr. Harold Keen; Johnston Community College Board of Trustees Chair Lyn T. Austin; Johnston County Commissioner Chair Butch Lawter; and JCC President, Dr. Vern L. Lindquist. In his address, Dr. Lindquist emphasized the transformative impact of the new campus.
“This facility represents a major investment in the future of our county and region,” said Dr. Lindquist. “It will give our students hands-on access to the latest technology, prepare them for high-demand careers, and help our local employers grow with a skilled workforce right here at home.”
About the FacilityThe $40 million, 67,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Training Facility provides state-of-the-art, hands-on training for the advanced manufacturing sector and serves as a hub for regional economic and workforce development. Programs housed in the facility include Welding, Applied Engineering, and Mechanical and Computer Integrated Machining.
The project was made possible through a collaborative partnership between the Johnston County Government, the NC General Assembly, the I-95/I-40 Crossroads of America Economic Development Alliance, Inc., and Johnston Community College.
